Physical Education
Our Health and PE Curriculum
Our dynamic and comprehensive Physical Education program at Queenscliff Primary school is founded on the three principles of:
- Fun
- Fitness
- Friendship
Physical Education focuses on students enhancing their own and others’ health, safety, well-being, and physical activity participation in varied and changing contexts.
Integral to Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities. As a foundation for lifelong physical activity participation and enhanced performance, students develop proficiency in movement skills, physical activities and movement concepts and acquire an understanding of the science behind how the body moves. In doing so, they develop an appreciation of the significance of physical activity, outdoor recreation, and sport both in Australian society and globally.
Our Physical Education curriculum program is designed to foster healthy bodies and minds and establish a love of being active with friends that lasts a lifetime.
Our classroom teachers deliver high quality learning programs targeting the key areas of knowledge and understanding in the Health Curriculum through the Respectful Relationships program, School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework and units of work focused on belonging, change, relationships and identity.
Programs
At Queenscliff Primary School, we focus on Fundamental Motor Skills in the junior years, moving towards sport-based games where they apply those skills in the senior years. Each class receives an hour per week of Physical Education combined with opportunities for our students to participate in Huff n’ Puff morning activities before school, lunch time clubs and inter-school sporting competitions. Our Physical Education program involves expert coaches delivering clinics and workshops with our students in a range of sports, including volleyball, cricket, soccer, pickleball and AFL.
Sporting Opportunities
Our students have opportunities to represent our school at inter-school sporting competitions in cricket, football, cross country, athletics, netball, swimming, hockey, t-ball and basketball
Swim Safety
Our Swimming Program aims to provide our students with the opportunity to learn crucial learn-to-swim skills, deepen their understanding of water safety and increase their confidence when interacting with waterways in our local environment, including pools, beaches, rivers and waterways.
Students in Prep to Year 4 participate in a comprehensive swimming program with qualified instructors at Bellarine Aquatic and Leisure Centre annually. Students in Year 5 and 6 engage in a two-day dynamic Beach Awareness Program that includes surfing lessons, beach safety, first aid and survival games.
