First Nations studies is a subject that incorporates First Nations perspectives into the lives of children at our school
There are 4 main components the First Nations Studies curriculum
- Connection to cultures through the Australian curriculum and school Reconciliation Action Plan
- Teaching True History of European settlement in Australia – what was Australia like prior to, during and after settlement
- Wadawurrung specific language and about Wadawurrung cultural practices
- Fire, water and sky and how these elements were and still are used by First Nations people to take care of themselves, animals and Country. These units of work from the ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curricula Project’ from the University of Melbourne were written by a panel of First Nations professionals. They reveal the deeply founded knowledge systems of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples
All First Nations teaching and learning material was written/ produced by First Nations authors, educators and professionals.
